Austin Huns Elite Roll New Orleans Rugby Club 91-8 March 11
Huns Play Dallas Harlequins Saturday, March 18 in Austin

Austin, TX (March 14, 2017) – The Austin Huns Elite traveled to Gretna, Louisiana, to face New Orleans Rugby Club (NOLA) for their second match of the Major Rugby Competition (MRC). Organized, determined, and aggressive, the Austin Huns Elite thrashed NOLA 91-8.

The Austin Huns were looking to make a big statement after receiving their first loss of the season two weeks ago to the Glendale Raptors in Colorado. The team started the match with their foot on the gas pedal and never took it off, scoring 8 tries in the first half and another 5 in the second half before calling the match early. “We will not get mesmerized by the scoreboard. We played against a gallant and young rugby team. I am happy with the way we kept our composure and kept to our structures, but we still have a lot of margin for improvement. We will move on to the next phase and focus on the basics next week as we prepare for the next hurdle, the Dallas Harlequins,” said Austin Huns Head Coach Eugene Eloff.

The Austin Huns will take on the Dallas Harlequins at Huns Field this Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Austin Huns YouTube channel.

Pierce Reed, Winger—Injury Update

In the 34th minute of the first half, Austin Huns wing Pierce Reed was injured while being tackled. He is currently recovering from surgery of the fractured C5 vertebrae in his neck. He has full strength in all his limbs. As of 9 a.m. (Monday, March 13th), Pierce’s surgery went well, and his post-op x-rays were excellent. He will be discharged from the hospital in less than 48 hours. Pierce will be in a brace for the next six weeks and will have some permanent metal in his body, titanium.

The Austin Huns Rugby Family’s thoughts and prayers go out to Pierce Reed and wish him a speedy recovery. The team will keep the community updated through their social media accounts.
