Austin Huns Fall to Nation’s Top Team Final Home Game of the Season Against Richmond RFC on April 29
Austin, Texas (April 17, 2017) – The Glendale Raptors, the nation’s top team, traveled to Austin, Texas, to take on the Austin Huns for the first time in history at Huns Field. A game that promised to feature high-level rugby, big hits, and fantastic tries, accomplished just that. After a tightly-contested first half ended in 10-8, the Raptors stayed true to their form and scored 35 points in the second half giving them a 45-15 win.
It was a beautiful day in Austin as the Huns and Raptors took the pitch. The Austin Huns Elite were looking for redemption after being defeated by the Raptors in Glendale back in February. Both teams were physical from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. We did not see the first points of the game until the 20th minutes when Austin Hun’s scrum-half Timothee Guillimin kicked through a penalty kick. The Raptors answer back with a penalty kick and the first try of the match at the 27th and 34th minute, respectively. The Austin Huns scored their first try of the game after a chip and chase by center Martin Knoetze, bringing the game to 10-8 in the Raptors’ favor at the half.
The second half was just as physical. The Austin Huns were forced to play defense the majority of the half, in their half. The first try of the half came in the 48th minute after a series of offloads by the Raptors. For the next 12 minutes, it was a stalemate, until the Raptors dotted in their second try of the half in the 60th minute. The Austin Huns finally score a try in the 79th minute, and the game ends at 45-15 in favor of the Glendale Raptors.
