This past weekend the Austin Huns Rugby Club completed a successful Summer 7s program with three sides competing in two tournaments. Huns I traveled to the USA Rugby Club 7s Championship in Minneapolis, MN to compete for a national title while Huns II and III traveled to Shreveport, LA for the 20th Annual Shreveport Riverboat 7s.

Huns I sent a star-studded team to Minneapolis under the direction of Jacob Liberman and Danie de Villiers to compete against the nations best men’s club programs. The pool draw pitted the Huns agains defending national Champions Rugby Utah Selects in game 1, only to fall short 17-7 in a tough match. The Huns would round out the day with a win against Beltway Elite 7s and another loss against Bulldog Rugby 7s to put them in the Men’s Bowl Quarterfinal on Sunday. The Huns fell short once again against Metropolis Rugby, ending their amazing summer 7s run.

Huns II TOLA- Shreveport, LA

Huns II, pulling from over 40 7s players, traveled to Shreveport in their bid for a TOLA 2017 Championship. In a tight race agains the Dallas Reds, they needed a win to have a shot at the title. Coach Justin Milan named the team and worked with the players all week to get the winning recipe.

The Huns came out strong in pool play, outscoring the competition 72-7 with tremendous attacks and impenetrable defense. The Huns would go on to beat the Dallas Harlequins 21-15 in the final, winning the tournament and bringing home the hardware!

Huns III- Shreveport, LA

With many teams struggling to field one 7s program, the Huns continuously and effectively fielded three competitive teams at multiple teams this season. Hats off to Coaches Steve Robinson and Justin Milan and all the players that worked hard all summer to make the program a success.

Huns III had a very competitive tournament but missed going to the final four by one converted try in point differential! The highlight of their tournament was when they beat powerhouse Little Rock Rugby 29-10 in pool play. The team finished 9th out of 37 teams in the TOLA championship this season.
